What is photoSIG?
photoSIG is a community of photographers and photography enthusiasts, ranging from amateurs to working professionals. photoSIG members may critique photos that have been submitted by other users and may also submit their own photos for review by the community.
What Can I Do Here?
If you're just starting out, then you might start by looking at the Tutorial, then proceed on to the Photos page to see the most recent photos submitted by photoSIG members. If you see a photo that you like, and you are a member, then you may enter a critique of the photo. After you've seen the latest photos, you can try checking out the highest rated photos, or maybe the most controversial photos. You can also browse photos by subject category or by many other categories. You can also stop by the Forums page, where you will find hundreds of messages from other photographers on various topics of interest.

Photo of the Week for July 12 - 18
from ofofhy/Evan (9,433)
on July 24, 2008 6:46:30 AM CDT
Please join me in congratulating nikki91330/Nikki ,
whose photo At the Globe Lounge
was chosen as the Photo of the Week for July 12 - 18. Jurors described the photo as a, "moody, sumptuous image." The crop allows it to be an, "anonymous, almost voyeuristic view into someone's life."
This image goes to show that you don't necessarily have to be a long time Sigger to be nominated for Photo of the Week. To be considered for Photo of The Week, a photographer must have submitted 10 conforming critiques within the week of the photo's submission. The Photo of the Week was selected by an anonymous jury process involving eight of your photoSIG peers. Individual jury members nominated photos that were submitted between July 12 and 18.
These photos were then voted upon by the entire jury in order to select the Photo of the Week. This week, we had nominations from the categories of Urban, Vehicle, Weather, Abstract, and Landscape.
Thanks again to the jury for their efforts this week.

Thumbnail changes
from sheena/Administrator (0)
on July 23, 2008 7:14:58 AM CDT
You may have noticed two changes made to the thumbnails on photoSIG; the thumbnails of R and X rated photos, including all those in the glamour and nude categories appear blurred on pages where there are also G rated thumbnails. This has been done to meet our advertisers' needs. In addition we have tried a new compression algorithm that as you can see is leaving the thumbnails overly sharp. We're working on an improvement to the sharpness. Thanks for your patience.
You can read the original post from Willis here. Please read through the post before commenting.

Category: Photo of the Week - Please do not check this category
from ofofhy/Evan (9,433)
on July 22, 2008 5:40:33 PM CDT
Folks, I know there are no instructions that indicate this, but it is the intention of the admins that the "Photo of the Week" category selection is to be used only by the administration to place all of the official Photos of the Week into a browsable category. I know it isn't ideal, but right now, it is the only way that we have to do this. I would like to ask that users not place their own photos into this category. I have been having to do a lot of editing of entries to remove them from this category. Thanks for your help in this matter, Evan

Trying something new...
from willis/Willis (3,456)

I'm trying an experiment to see if I can improve photoSIG's ad revenue.
photoSIG has had financial difficulty for several months due to a demand by one of my primary advertising customers that I remove their ads from any pages that even have a single adult photo on them, including the thumbnail pages. Since many thumbnail pages have one or two adult photos on them, that suddenly killed off a large amount of photoSIG's ad revenue.
The change that I've made is that if a thumbnail of an adult photo is mixed in with a bunch of non-adult photos, it is blurred. That will hopefully make it possible for me to run ads on those pages again.
To avoid seeing the blurred photos, you can browse thumbnails pages that only feature adult photos, such as the Erotic category.
