Little sister to "Colorful" and "Amazing Eyes" I recently posted. It took some time but with the help of her parents behind me... she cracked up and we captured a natural laugh/smile. She forced all her smiles in most of the shots... very young... didn't know how to relax... just being kid :)

Natural light... no reflectors...very little post work

I think this is a great shot Frank.

  • Depth of field is spot on - and you've got her well away from the background, which is great.
  • Nice soft skin.
  • Catchlights present - good.
  • Engaging with the audience.
  • Hair frames her head nicely.

A couple of things I think you could have improved.

  • Skin might be a bit too soft.
  • I'm not sure about the slight asymmetry in the arms. Consider a crop so you don't see any arm flesh or crop in on the left to match.

The skin..I don't do skin smoothing on kids... only remove scratches or rough patches... it's just her you see here :)Young kids have great skin for the most part. It's when they hit 11 on up...makes me cry a little. ROFL

I will try another crop...appreciate the suggestion.
